Manchester United are reportedly ready to pay as much as €60 million to Atletico Madrid to secure the services of Sergio Aguero. After missing out on the permanent signature of fellow Argentinian Carlos Tevez, United have made Kun their top transfer priority for the off-season. Aguero, who is Maradona’s son-in-law,has not been in tremendous form over the last 12 months but is still regarded as one of the hottest youngsters in Europe.
Atletico Madrid have categorically denied their desire to sell their main players – Forlan and Aguero. It seems that Manchester United would have to trigger Aguero’s release clause if they fancy a move for Sergio. Atletico chairman Enrique Cerezo has voiced his desire to keep all his stars at Vicente Calderon –
We do not want to sell and we are calm about everything,”
“We have a good team at present and we are going to strengthen it every which way we can. We are absolutely calm. We are not afraid of anything or anybody. [The players] have contracts which we have respected and we expect to be shown the same respect.”
Atletico Madrid, on the other hand, have some shopping to do themselves. They are closing in on the signing of Real Valladolid goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo. But Cerezo has stated that the deal is not yet complete.
