Wigan boss Roberto Martinez has refused to rule out a move for former Portsmouth defender Sol Campbell. Wigan are just one of numerous sides who are being linked with a move for the former England star. Campbell left Notts County earlier this month after the Magpies finally agreed to release him from his contract.
Campbell’s ill-fated spell at the League Two club lasted just one game. Martinez has also admitted that he would like to strengthen his squad in January but he refused to comment on whether Campbell would be a player targeted during the window.
Martinez told Sky Sports News: “Well I am sure you cannot buy the sort of experience you can get through playing many years in the Premiership so that is going to be a big asset for any football club,”
“From our point of view I will always talk about the players we have got in the squad and I am not going to hide from the situation that we want to improve our football club, improve our playing staff and you can only do that in the [transfer] windows.”
“And we are going to do exactly what we do in every window – try to follow as many players as we can and make sure we get the right ones.”
