Everton boss Roberto Martinez is set to complete the first two signings of his reign on Merseyside. According to the Daily Mail, Wigan duo Arouna Kone and Antolin Alcaraz will be the first players to sign for Everton under the Spaniard.
Martinez of course knows the pair from their time together at the DW Stadium. Alcaraz is available on a free transfer with his contract expiring at Wigan expiring early week. Everton were believed to have had competition for the player signature from Bundesliga club Werder Bremen and La Liga side Malaga.
However, it seems that the Paraguayan would prefer to be reunited with his former-boss on Merseyside. The same goes for Kone.
The Ivorian international had also attracted the interest of Norwich, Swansea, and Liverpool. The 29-year-old has decided to snub interest from elsewhere and join up with Martinez at Goodison Park.
Kone impressed immensely in the Premier League last season, scoring 11 goals despite his team being relegated from the top flight. The striker revealed earlier this week that he did not intend to stay with Wigan in the Championship. He is likely to cost Everton around £5million.
