Stade Rennes’ attacking midfielder Sylvain Marveux is very close to agreeing a deal with Liverpool, if reports in England are to be believed. The 24-year old French U-21 international’s contract with Rennes ends at the end of the season, and he is expected to join Liverpool for free in the summer. Marveux was being monitored by a lot of clubs including Manchester United and Chelsea, but he set his sights on a Liverpool move after being present as a guest at Anfield during the Reds’ 0-1 defeat at the hands of Wolves in December.
Marveux is quite a versatile player and can play wide on the left or centrally in a more advanced role behind the strikers. In his 102 appearances for Rennes, he has scored 20 times. But 12 of his 20 goals have come last season where he turned on a new leaf as an attacker.
Marveux is currently sidelined due to a groin injury and it seems unlikely that he’d be fit enough to play for Rennes before his move to Anfield.
