Rennes midfielder Stephane Mbia says he has agreed terms with Marseille. The 23 year old has also been linked with Premier League clubs Everton and Stoke. The side from the Potteries agreed a fee with Rennes and the player travelled to England to discuss a move to the Premier League.
Stoke chairman Peter Coates told the Sentinel: “The ball is very much in the court of the player and his club,”
“We have nothing like agreed any terms, that is way too premature. At the moment we are a million miles from doing a deal.”
The player has also been a long term target for Everton and according to some reports last summer turned down a move to Goodison Park. He also stated earlier this summer that he would not listen to offers from England, yet had a change of heart by discussing terms with Stoke. However it appears Everton and Stoke will have to turn their attentions to other targets.
The Cameroon international met with Marseille officials on Friday and appears to have struck a deal with the French club.
Mbia told L’Equipe: “I want to win titles, that is why I have chosen l’OM.
“I have not signed anything yet, but it is done.
“I am very happy. Didier Deschamps has definitely persuaded me.”
