Sunderland are close to sealing the signing of free agent James McFadden. The Scottish international has enjoyed a successful trial spell at the club after being released by Premier League rivals Everton in the summer.
Sunderland boss Martin O’Neill is looking to add to his wide options and has stated that he is close to adding the former-Motherwell attacker to his squad. The Ulsterman is looking for backup for wingers James McClean and Adam Johnson.
McFadden is a versatile player and can play up front or on the wing. When he arrived at Everton from Motherwell he was considered a potential star of the future. He never really fulfilled his potential on Merseyside and moved on to Birmingham.
However, the Scot returned to Merseyside last summer on a free transfer after enjoying an injury hit time at Birmingham. McFadden will definitely add experience to the Black Cats squad and could prove a useful squad player.
