Mexican international striker Guillermo Franco could be heading for the Premier League with Stoke,Wigan and West Ham expressing an interest in the 32 year-old. Franco left Villarreal at the end of the season after his contract expired at the El Madrigal. Franco got on the scoresheet for his country in their 3-0 victory over Costa Rica in qualifying on Saturday. It was his sixth goal in 18 appearances for the Mexicans.
West Ham are believed to have already held talks with the player. His agent Barry McIntosh said: “We haven’t decided anything yet as several English clubs have been in touch about him.” The star came close to joining Copa Libertadores champions Estudiantes but the deal with the Argentineans collapsed at the last minute.
Franco told The Guardian: “Imagine how I feel after so much criticism for not having a team, but thank God my dream has come true to play in England.
“This is a new step, a new cycle with big challenges in a very strong league.”
He also has experience of playing in Argentina the place of his birth as well Spain and Mexico. He became a naturalized Mexican citizen in 2002 after moving to Mexican club side Monterrey and made his international debut three years later.
