Middlesbrough’s Didier Digard signs for Nice

Middlesbrough midfielder Didier Digard has left the Riverside by opting for a permanent switch to French side Nice. Digard, 24, was signed by Boro from PSG in 2008 for £4m, but failed to hold down a starting place at the Riverside and was farmed out on loan to Nice last year. The fee for Digard’s permanent transfer to the French club was not revealed, but sources estimate it to be around £1m.

Nice finished 17th in Ligue 1 last season. They have agreed a three year deal with Digard, who has been capped by France at U-21 level but is yet to earn a cap for the senior national team.

Digard’s transfer will also reduce Boro’s wage bill significantly as the medio was reportedly one of the highest paid players on Teeside.
