According to reports, Major League Soccer team Inter Miami are very keen on bringing Lionel Messi to America next season, with the club’s co-owners Jorge and Jose Mas in advanced talks with the player’s representatives.
Messi’s current deal with PSG expires at the end of the 22/23 season. The Parisians are keen on keeping him in the capital, but there’s also been talk of a potential move back to Barcelona. At 35 though, Messi isn’t getting any younger and a move to the MLS might make sense. It would be a marquee signing for the league, especially with the United States set to hold the next World Cup in 2026.
Things are likely to become clearer after the World Cup where Messi’s Argentina are in Group C alongside Saudi Arabia, Mexico and Poland.
Inter Miami finished 6th in the Eastern Conference in the 2022 season but were eliminated in the playoffs by New York City, who beat them 3-0.
PSG currently lead Ligue 1 with 35 points from 13 games, five more than second-placed Lens. Messi has played 17 times for them in all competitions this season, with 12 goals and 13 assists to his name.
