Luka Modric’s long awaited transfer to Real Madrid is now complete, with Tottenham Hotspur revealing that they had agreed to sell the Croatian midfielder to Los Merengues for a reported £33m fee, with £27m due initially and the remaining £6m to arrive in add ons. The fee is significantly lower than the £35-£40m Spurs were holding out for at the beginning of the summer. The Lilywhites bought Modric from Dinamo for £16m in 2008 and his time at the Lane has seen him develop into one of the world’s best players.
Real and Spurs have also agreed a new partnership that will see them ‘working together in respect of players, coaching, best practices and commercial relationships.’
Spurs have started poorly to the new season, losing to Newcastle and conceding a late equaliser at home against West Bromwich Albion.
