Luka Modric’s proposed transfer to Real Madrid could be completed in the next couple of days, according to sources. Spurs reportedly want an £30m+ transfer fee plus a player in exchange and are willing to let Modric go. The Lilywhites would prefer not to sell him to a Premier League rival which makes Los Merengues the only real viable club as the Croat’s next destination.
However new manager Andre Villas-Boas has said that he is “counting” on Rafael van der Vaart to stay and added that the Dutch playmaker “was in a completely different situation” compared to Modric. Speculation has been rife regarding Van der Vaart’s future after the signing of Gylfi Sigurdsson from Swansea City, with former club Hamburg rumoured to be interested in signing him.
