Everton boss David Moyes has admitted to defeat in his battle to keep England centre-back Joleon Lescott. The England defender is set to finally complete a move to Manchester City in the next few days, after weeks of argument and debate over the players future.
Lescott was dropped for Everton’s Europa League 4-1 victory over Sigma Olomouc on Thursday night and was left out of the team that lost 1-0 at Burnley on Sunday. Moyes stated the reason was Lescott’s poor attitude. The player looked distracted last weekend as Everton were hammered 6-1 by Arsenal. The transfer looks likely to be in the region of £24million, plus add ons depending on how successful City are in the future.
The Everton chief told the Everton official website: “I think most people know. I think there’s a deal there and it’s going to go through if things can be agreed.”
He has also revealed that he needs to strengthened his squad saying:”We’re hopeful to add to it (the squad), I’d like to get four players in, if possible.”
Everton will now have to look at potential replacements. The Toffee’s have been linked with moves for Newcastle defender Steven Taylor and also Manchester City centre-back Richard Dunne, who started his career at Goodison Park.
