New Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers will not be able to sign any players from his former club Swansea City for atleast a year, the Welsh outfit’s chairman Huw Jenkins has revealed. Rodgers, who guided Swansea to an impressive 11th placed finish in the 2011/12 Premier League season, took over as manager at Liverpool from Kenny Dalglish and is widely expected to bring in his former players to introduce a passing style of football at Anfield.
Top on Rodgers’ shopping list were midfielders Joe Allen and Gylfi Sigurdsson, with the latter still a possibility because he was technically a Hoffenheim player on loan at the Liberty last season.
Swansea City can confirm that Liverpool will not be allowed to make transfer bids for any players at the Liberty Stadium for the next 12 months.
The clause was included in the compensation agreement finalised last night between the two clubs following the departure of manager Brendan Rodgers from the Liberty Stadium to Anfield.
