Newcastle United are reportedly very close to completing the signing of Mathieu Debuchy from Lille. The French defender was the subject of attention from the Magpies during the summer window, but the transfer did not materialise then. Alan Pardew’s side will pay a little over €6m to French giants Lille for the right back, who will add to the growing French contingent on Tyneside.
Hatem Ben Arfa, Yohan Cabaye, Gabriel Obertan and Sylvain Marveaux are all French and the former two have had massive impact on the club’s fortunes since their arrival at St James Park.
Pardew is also looking to seal a deal for Marseille striker Loic Remy as a replacement for Demba Ba, whose exit clause is likely to see him leave the club in the winter window.
