Newcastle face a stiff battle to keep Demba Ba at Tyneside, with rumours floating that the striker has an escape clause of £7m written into his contract till July 31. The relatively cheap fee Spurs would have to pay for Ba is making the prolific Senegalese striker an attractive option for manager Harry Redknapp ahead of other forwards like Loic Remy and Luuk de Jong.
Ba arrived on a free transfer from West Ham United and was one of Newcastle’s stars of the season before he was overshadowed by Senegalese compatriot Papiss Demba Cisse.
Newcastle do not wish to open negotiations with Ba so soon into his contract but may have to enter into discussions with the striker or risk him losing for a small fee to a league rival.
