According to the London Standard, Premier League strugglers are interested in signing Chelsea’s out-of-favour centre-back David Luiz in the January transfer window. However, they are only willing to sign the Brazilian on loan until the end of the season.
Reportedly, Luiz has fallen out of favour at Stamford Bridge due to his relationship with Blues boss Antonio Conte. The 30-year-old is currently recovering from a knee problem. However, he is expected to return to training early in the New Year.
During his absence young Danish centre-back Andreas Christensen has impressed at the heart of the Blues defence alongside Cesar Azpilicueta and Gary Cahill. A number of clubs are reported to hold an interest in signing Luiz in January.
Chelsea’s London rivals are believed to be interested in signing the centre-back in a deal worth £30million. Italian giants Juventus and European champions Real Madrid have also been mooted as prospective destinations for the former PSG star. However, it seems the north east side are set to rival the giants for the Brazilian star.
Newcastle has recently dropped into the Premier League’s relegation zone after a terrible run of form in the top-flight. Magpies boss Rafa Benitez will be hoping to strengthen his squad when the window opens and Luiz now looks like a viable transfer target.
