Newcastle United have completed the signing of French forward Gabriel Obertan from Manchester United. The winger failed to establish himself at Old Trafford following his switch from French outfit Bordeaux two years ago and has now signed a five year contract at St.James Park, where he is expected to fill the void left by Wayne Routledge’s departure to the Liberty Stadium.
The fee paid by Newcastle to United for Obertan’s services was not officially revealed, but sources reveal it to be somewhere around £3m. Obertan thus becomes Newcastle’s fifth acquisition of the summer after Yohan Cabaye, Demba Ba, Sylvain Marveaux and Mehdi Abeid and could make his debut for the Magpies in their Premier League opener against Arsenal this weekend.
