Official- Arsenal and Barcelona agree Fabregas deal

Arsenal and Barcelona have officially reached an agreement in principle for the transfer of Spanish playmaker Cesc Fabregas. The Gunners made the announcement during Barca’s Spanish Super Cup tie against arch rivals Real Madrid, with Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger reiterating that the club did not wish for Fabregas to leave but had to accept the offer in light of the player’s wish to switch clubs.

The midfielder, who joined Arsenal from Barcelona in 2003, will now undergo a medical and agree personal terms on Monday before being officially presented to the press as a Barcelona player. The transfer fee agreed was not revealed, but is rumoured to be around £35m, with Arsenal initially holding out for somewhere close to £40m.

Fabregas was not included in the squad for Arsenal’s season opener against Newcastle on Saturday, a game the Gunners drew 0-0.
