Arsenal have officially announced that midfielder Denilson has left the club to join Brazilian club Sao Paulo on a season long loan. The Brazilian midfielder was frustrated with the lack of first team opportunities at the Emirates Stadium and agreed to a loan switch in order to get more playing time under his belt.
Denilson however added that he was “saddened” at the move and would follow Arsenal’s progress from South America.
23 year old Denilson, a former Brazil U-17 captain, joined Arsenal from Sao Paulo in 2006 and has since gone on to make over 150 appearances for the Gunners over the last five years. However his appearances in the last couple of seasons were largely restricted to Cup and continental fixtures, a disappointing statistic for a player who played 37 league games for Arsenal during the 2008-09 season.
