Newcastle United have officially confirmed the signing of Yohan Cabaye from Lille OSC. The midfielder moves to the Magpies for a reported £4.8m fee. Cabaye, 25, has signed a five year contract with Newcastle and becomes their first major signing of the summer as coach Alan Pardew looks to reinforce his side from the proceeds of Andy Carroll’s £35m sale to Liverpool.
Cabaye has been capped four times at senior level by France and also played in Les Bleus’ recently concluded international friendlies against Euro 2012 co-hosts Ukraine and Poland.
However Cabaye’s team mate, Ivorian international Gervinho, is unlikely to follow him to St.James Park with the lure of Champions League football expected to take him to Arsenal instead.
