Newcastle United have signed Rennes midfielder Sylvain Marveaux on a five-year contract. Marveaux had been linked to a host of Premiership clubs including Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool but Marveaux has chosen to sign for the Magpies for an undisclosed fee.
Marveaux will complete his move to St James’ Park on the 1st of July and Newcastle manager Alan Pardew said: “It’s a coup to have signed Sylvain, who has had interest from a number of clubs. “He may not be well known to many of our fans, but he is a player we have been keeping an eye on for some time.”
25-year-old Marveaux is a former France Under-21 international who has played over 100 games for Rennes, scoring 16 goals.
The signing of Marveaux will surely help boost morale at St James’ Park after loss of skipper Kevin Nolan, who surprisingly joined relegated West Ham United on Thursday.
