Real Madrid have signed Spanish international defender Raul Albiol from fellow Primera division side Valencia. Albiol is currently with the Spanish team in South Africa ( they lost their semifinal yesterday night to the United States), and will undergo a medical next week. The fee agreed between the two clubs was not revealed but sources say that it is somewhere around €15m ( £12m+).
Albiol is Florentino Perez’s third signing of the summer after Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo. He will put pen to paper a five year deal at the Santiago Bernabeu if he passes his medical.
Albiol started his career at Valencia, and has spent his whole life at the Mestalla barring a small time on loan at Real’s city rivals Getafe. He is primarily a central defender, but can also play as a holding midfielder.
Real and Valencia could do further business this summer if the two clubs can agree upon a fee for international striker David Villa. Reports suggest that Real are very close to clinching the deal, and only a few financial details need to be ironed out at this stage of negotiations.
