Newcastle United have officially confirmed the signing of veteran defender Sol Campbell. The 35 year old has signed a one year contract with the Magpies, making them his fifth club after Tottenham, Arsenal, Portsmouth and Notts County.
Campbell will wear the No.5 shirt at Newcastle United. He needs only four more games to complete 500 Premier League appearances. Only David James, Ryan Giggs and Gary Speed have made more league appearances.
Campbell was linked with a move to both Newcastle and Sunderland, but opted for the former. He was known to prefer a switch to the North East because of his recent marriage to interior designer Fiona Barratt, who is based in Northumberland.
