Tottenham have completed the signing of South African centre back Bongani Khumalo from SuperSport United. Khumalo was one of South Africa’s leading performs in the 2010 World Cup and also scored the opening goal in their 2-1 win against France. It seems to be a very shrewd signing by Harry Redknapp who paid just £1.5million for the services of the strong 23-year old defender. He has signed a four and a half year contract at White Hart Lane.
Khumalo had a trial at the Lane in September where he managed to impress Harry Redknapp. A deal was finalized in September itself and the clubs were waiting for the winter window to open to complete the necessary paperwork. Khumalo could well make his Spurs’ debut in Spurs’ FA Cup match against Charlton.
Quite naturally, Bongani sounded very optimistic about the move, “I have always wanted to play in England and obviously in the Premier League and it would be a dream to move to Tottenham. Playing in the Champions League would be another dream.”
