Olympique Lyon sign Lisandro Lopez from Porto

French giants Olympique Lyonnais have signed Argentine striker Lisandro Lopez from FC Porto for a fee of €24 million. The transfer also has performance related clauses that could see the fee rise by another €4m.

Lopez started his career at Racing Club de Avanalleda and his performances in the Apertura earnt him a €2.5m switch across the Atlantic in 2005. He made 97 appearances for Porto in his four year stint at the Dragao, and found the back of the net forty four times. He also finished as the Champions League’s fourth highest goal scorer last season, ending up with six goals.

Most of the funds for the Lopez transfer will come from Karim Benzema’s  €35m Real Madrid move. Benzema was extremely prolific at Stade Gerland, and Lyon will be hoping that he can fill in Benzema’s boots as they aim to recapture the Ligue 1 title this year.
