Chelsea have moved one step closer to the acquisition of Gary Cahill from Bolton Wanderers after Trotters manager Owen Coyle revealed that the Blues had officially agreed a fee with the Lancashire club for the defender’s transfer. Chelsea have now been given permission to discuss personal terms with Cahill, who seems set to become their first signing of the January window.
Cahill is out of contract at the end of the season and the Blues are therefore expected to land the England international for a bargain £7m, instead of the £15-20m figures that were being bandied about at the beginning of the season when he was the subject of interest from many top clubs.
