According to reports, Crystal Palace defender Patrick van Aanholt is a winter transfer target for Italian giants Roma. The Giallorossi are reported to be willing to pay as much as £25m for the Dutch international.
Van Aanholt is a former Chelsea youth product and had loan spells at Coventry, Newcastle, Leicester, Wigan and Vitesse before leaving Stamford Bridge for the Stadium of Light in 2014. He spent two and a half seasons with Sunderland before leaving Wearside in January 2017 to join Palace, and is currently contracted to the Eagles till the end of the 2020/21 season.
Roma have struggled this season in Italy, and are currently a whopping 22 points behind leaders Juventus. They however did manage to progress from their Champions League group, finishing second behind Real Madrid and qualifying for the knockout stage, where they’ll face Portuguese giants Porto in the Round of 16.
Van Aanholt, primarily a left back by trade, has started all 17 of Crystal Palace’s games this season in the Premier League. The Eagles, currently 15th in the table, will square off against Pep Guardiola’s City this weekend in GW18.
