Numerous outlets are reporting that Krzysztof Piatek – AC Milan’s 24-year-old centre-forward – is the subject of a transfer tug of war between two London clubs: Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.
Piatek was superb last season, scoring 30 goals in all competitions for Genoa and AC Milan, who he joined in January for a fee reported to be in the region of £30-million in the January transfer window.
This season, however, Piatek has been far less convincing, scoring just four times in 18 appearances for a struggling AC Milan side. This downturn in form might lead to the Rossonero struggling to recoup the fee they paid for the Polish international.
Chelsea and Spurs would both be capable of putting together a rewarding enough financial package to tempt AC Milan. But the question would be whether or not they think the striker would represent good value for money.
Both clubs are in dire need of a striker following injuries to Harry Kane and Tammy Abraham respectively. But, with the likes of Edinson Cavani available in the January window as well, it remains to be seen how aggressively they will pursue Piatek. Chelsea’s war chest in particular – having been banned from making transfers for the past three windows – will have built up enough for them to consider alternative, more glamorous crative options.
