Preston North End have completed the signing of Iain Turner on a free transfer. Scottish goalkeeper Turner has signed a one year contract with the Lilywhites after rejecting the offer of a new deal at Everton. Turner, who spent three months on loan at Deepdale last season, also had offers from Sheffield United and Charlton Athletic, but chose to opt for the Lilywhites.
The transfer brings to an end Preston boss Phil Brown’s summer long pursuit of Turner, whom he had identified as his choice for the keeper’s role at Deepdale.
With Andrew Lonergan sold to Leeds, Turner is expected to stand under the sticks at PNE, with Andreas Arestidou and Dominic Cromie providing cover for the 27 year old. Turner had joined Everton way back in 2003, but struggled to win down a first team spot at Goodison Park. He was sent off with minutes of making his Premier League debut against Blackburn.
