Portsmouth have began preparations for the new season by releasing a host of players. The contracts of Noe Pamarot, Lauren, Glen Little, Djimi Traore and Jerome Thomas will not be renewed and the players have been asked to find new employers. The club are also considering the futures of Nwanko Kanu and Sol Campbell. The club are willing to offer Kanu one year extension on his current deal while talks with Cambell are set to resume next week. Glen Johnson, Jermaine Pennant and Armand Traore have already left Fratton Park in the close season.
While Glen Johnson has secured a big money transfer to Liverpool, Djimi Traore has agreed to a two-year deal with French outfit Monaco. Also, Bolton have managed to snap up Sean Davis from Portsmouth for a fee of £3.5million. He has signed a three-year contract with Megson’s side. Megson said –
Sean made 40 appearances last season and he will strengthen our midfield. We are delighted to have signed such an experienced Premier League footballer.
Manchester City have also decided not to renew the contracts of left-back Michael Ball, midfielder Dietmar Hamann, right-back Danny Mills and striker Darius Vassell. All the four players were signed before Hughes took over as City manager and did not feature prominently in Hughes’ plans last season. The quartet join Daniel Sturridge, Richard Martin and Glauber Berti in the list of players who would leave City this summer.
