Portsmouth have signed Lyon striker Frederic Piquionne on a season-long loan deal. Pompey also have first refusal on signing the player next summer if he impresses. The 30 year-old can play as a winger as well as a striker.
Lyon revealed last week that there was interest from Premier League clubs in the former St Etienne star, with Fulham also reported to be interested in signing him. Pompey manager Paul Hart is desperate to strengthen his squad, but has a limited budget at the moment.
And Pompey have had to sell some of their key players including England internationals Glen Johnson and Peter Crouch. The situation could all change with Sulaiman Al Fahim trying to take control of the South Coast club. The arrival of Al Fahim could bring much needed funds with Hart’s squad currently low on quality and quantity.
Meanwhile Pompey have fined striker David Nugent and midfielder Marc Wilson for a bust-up on their tour of Portugal. The pair reportedly had an altercation in the hotel where the club were staying and teammates had to separate them.
A club statement read: “David Nugent and Marc Wilson have both been disciplined for a serious breach of club discipline.
“The matter has been dealt with internally and there will be no further comment from the club.”
