Potters sign Surridge

Stoke City have officially confirmed the signing of Sam Surridge from Bournemouth. The 23-year-old has joined the Potters for a reported £5.5m fee and has inked a four-year deal that will tie him to the club till 2025.

Surridge is a Bournemouth academy graduate and made 35 appearances across all competitions for the Championship outfit last season, with 7 goals to his name. Most of them were however off the bench, with Dominic Solanke usually the club’s preferred striker as the Cherries opted to play with one just forward upfront.

The South Coast outfit have a new manager this campaign in the form of Scott Parker, but early indications suggest that tactic will continue, and Surridge felt it better to opt for a move in order to secure regular first team football. He has also previously had loan spells at Weymouth, Poole, Yeovil, Oldham and Swansea.

Stoke finished 14th in the 2020/21 Championship season, managing 60 points, seventeen behind the Cherries, who took the final playoff spot on offer.

Surridge has been capped by England at U21 level and Potters boss Michael O’Neill revealed that the young forward was a key transfer target for them this summer. Stoke’s other major signings in the summer window include Ben Wilmot, Mario Vrancic and Jack Bonham.
