There has been very little transfer activity in the Barclays Premier League in the last week with the top 4 not involved even in a single deal. Although two deals in excess of 10 million pounds have gone through, the general mood of the market has been mellow.
Tottenham Hotspur have completed the 14 million pound signing of Honduran midfielder Winston Palacious from Wigan. Manchester City have also gone into the market and snapped Dutch holding midfielder Nigel de Jong for 15 million pounds from Hamburg. De Jong would have been available for 3.5 million in the summer but Manchester City decided not to wait that long for securing his services. In a strange move, Hull City have signed Fulham’s English midfielder Jamie Bullard for $ 9 million. He has signed a four and a half year contract with the Tigers. Marlon King, who was on loan at Hull City has now joined Middlesbrough on a six month loan deal. Boro are struggling for goals this season and King is an astute signing. Aston Villa have completed the signing of Wigan striker Emile Heskey for 3.5 million pounds and Martin O’Neill has dropped hints that he would make a bid for England superstar Michael Owen in order to revive the Owen-Heskey combination which worked wonders for Liverpool.
Both Manchester City and Bolton Wanderers are reportedly after Portugese star Miguel Veloso. Crystal Palace midfielder Ben Watson is on the verge of joining Wigan. He rejected an offer from Middlesbrough to join Bruce at the JJB. Branislav Ivanovic is expected to leave Chelsea for Fiorentina while Leeds United are demanding £8m for their midfielder Fabian Delph, with Fulham eager to sign him as a replacement for Bullard.
With one week to go, the window is now into its business end !
