French champions Paris Saint-Germain have strengthened their squad with the acquisitions of goalkeeper Keylor Navas and striker Mauro Icardi on transfer deadline day.
Costa Rican international Navas has inked a four year contract with the Parisians in a deal that will also see their current No.1 Alphonse Areola move to the Bernabeu on a season-long loan.
Navas’ deal is a permanent one but Areola’s loan switch however does not include an offer to buy at the end of the stint. Navas was keen on a move after losing his spot as the club’s first choice keeper following Thibault Courtois’ arrival in the Spanish capital last summer.
PSG boss Thomas Tuchel has also moved to sign Mauro Icardi on a season long loan from Inter. The Argentine was frozen out at the San Siro by manager Antonio Conte and CEO Beppe Marotta, who made it clear that he had no future with the Nerazzurri following a breakdown in relations between the two parties last season.
The Icardi deal includes an option for PSG to make the deal permanent next summer for 65 million euros.
While PSG have already suffered defeat four rounds into the new Ligue 1 season, they remain top of the table in France going into the international break.
