Paris Saint-Germain have officially announced the signing of Portuguese youngster Joao Neves from Benfica. The teenager moves for a reported 60-million-euro fee, with a further 10 million in potential add-ons and the deal also sees Renato Sanches move in the opposite direction on loan with an option to buy.
The 19-year-old Neves has put pen to paper a five-year-deal at Parc des Princes which is expected to keep him in the French capital till 2029, and will wear the No.87 jersey at PSG.
Neves had a breakthrough 2023/24 season with Benfica, making a whopping 55 appearances for them across all competitions. He won the Portuguese league’s Midfielder of the Month award several times in 23/24 and also made the league’s official Team of the Season.
Neves’ performances for Benfica saw him being capped by Portugal last year and he was also part of their Euro 2024 squad. The Selecao were eliminated in the last eight of the competition on penalties by France.
PSG have a strong Portuguese speaking contingent in their squad- Brazilian defender Marquinhos is their captain while midfielder Danilo is their vice-captain. They also have the likes of Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha and Nuno Mendes on their roster.
