Social media erupted following news of PSG’s pursuit of Lionel Messi coming to a possible end with higher-ups of the club allegedly preparing their Parisian stores to facilitate the arrival of the Argentine.
Lionel Messi’s contract expires in the summer of 2021 which will allow for clubs to negotiate a contract this January. Big spenders PSG and Manchester City have both expressed interest in signing the Argentine superstar over the past few seasons and next year this dream may come to fruition for PSG fans.
PSG have many superstars in their team and Neymar Jr (a close friend of Messi) will be vital if he is to convince Messi to join the club. One issue surrounding the deal is the jersey number with Neymar currently holding Messi’s number 10 jersey at PSG, however, this is unlikely to be a stumbling block in negotiations.
With Messi at PSG, Real Madrid could be on high alert with rumours circling around the signing of Frenchman Kylian Mbappe. If PSG sign Messi, Real Madrid will be more than happy to balance the books by spending big money on Mbappe.
Lionel Messi himself is happy to wait as the ball is firmly in his court. Sources close to the player have suggested that he’d like to wait and see the outcome of the Barcelona Presidential election before making a decision on his future, however, even presidential candidate Agusti Benedito doubts the Catalan giants will financially be able to compete with interest from PSG or Manchester City.
Whatever happens, the next few months promises to be an exciting period for the future of the best footballer of all time. Wherever he goes will be a heavy favourite in whichever tournament they compete in the 2021/22 campaign.
