As per several reputable outlets, Manchester City and England star man Raheem Sterling is tempted by an approach from Spanish giants Real Madrid in the summer.
Sterling is keen to stay with Manchester City until the end of the season in order to aid their assault on the Champions League under Pep Guardiola, but should Real Madrid come calling when the window opens in May 2020. Given that Los Blancos lost out on their favoured choice of Galactico Neymar over summer, a move for Sterling would seem a sensible second choice. The English forward’s career trajectory is promising to say the least – his goals and assists tally, as well as his all-round contribution over the past three seasons, have been truly remarkable.
In fact, as Sterling is three years Neymar’s junior, it could be argued that he might be a wiser choice than his Brazilian counterpart. In the current climate, Sterling would almost certainly cost in excess of £150-million and would have to be paid somewhere the region of £450,000 per/week.
Ultimately, whether this deal comes to fruition or not might come down to the successes/failings of the Real Madrid forward line this season. Eden Hazard is a recent acquisition and they have the likes of Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo waiting to take the place of the want-away Gareth Bale. If Sterling were to swap the Etihad for the Bernabeu, it would mean displacing one of these magnificent talents.
