Spanish giants Real Madrid are set to hijack arch rivals Barcelona’s plans to land Arsenal skipper Cesc Fabregas by bidding £35m for him when the summer transfer window opens.
Fabregas has long been linked with a switch to his boyhood club Barcelona, and the Catalans even reportedly bid £30m last year, only for Arsenal to turn it down. However Madrid coach Jose Mourinho has decided that Fabregas could be a valuable asset to his team and is looking at the Arsenal skipper and Xabi Alonso to form a deadly central midfield pairing. Barcelona’s financial woes could also work to Real’s advantage as the Blaugrana will almost certainly lose in a bidding war with their arch rivals.
Despite all of Real Madrid’s investments in the last two years, Los Blancos only have one Copa Del Rey to show for their efforts. They are eight points behind Barcelona in the league and were eliminated in the last four of the Champions League by the Catalans earlier this week.
