According to the Spanish media, Real Madrid have identified Tottenham star Harry Kane as one of the possible candidates to replace veteran striker Karim Benzema. The French forward will be leaving Los Blancos this summer to join Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia, and with the likes of Eden Hazard, Mariano and Marco Asensio also exiting the Bernabeu, Real suddenly appear to be short on attacking firepower.
Coach Carlo Ancelotti has said that the club will “definitely” sign strikers and Kane, who is very much in the Benzema mould, would fit the bill quite well. Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy would also prefer the idea of selling Kane to a Spanish club rather than to a direct rival in the Premier League. Other big-name options being considered by Real include PSG’s Kylian Mbappe and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen.
Manchester United are also in the market for a striker and have been heavily linked with Kane this summer. Moving to the Spanish capital however does pose more cultural challenges for the 29-year-old Kane, and it remains to be seen whether he would be open to leaving England, especially when he is on the cusp of breaking Alan Shearer’s record for most goals scored in the Premier League.
