Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has dismissed speculation linking Jermain Defoe with a move away from White Hart Lane. The England striker has unable to get regular football at Spurs this season with Redknapp preferring to use Dutch playmaker Rafael van der Vaart and on loan striker Emmanuel Adebayor as his first choice combination upfront.
Defoe’s situation assumes greater importance because the striker feels that a lack of opportunities at the Lane may see him miss the bus for the 2012 European Championships.
A variety of Premier League clubs are said to be monitoring the situation, with Liverpool, Newcastle, Sunderland and Queens Park Rangers all reported to be interested.
Redknapp said that Defoe was an important player for the club and ruled out a permanent sale as well as a loan switch.
