Reigning Premier League champions Liverpool have finally signed defensive reinforcements, bringing in Ozan Kabak from Schalke and Ben Davies from Preston on deadline day. Turkish international Kabak has been signed on loan with an option to buy while Davies has arrived in a permanent switch, with promising youngster Sepp van den Berg going the other way on loan to Deepdale as part of the deal.
With the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Joe Gomez and Fabinho all injured, Liverpool were forced to field their 12th different centre back partnership this season against West Ham over the weekend, with skipper Jordan Henderson and Nat Phillips pairing up in defence.
The string of mixed results in January finally forced the Reds’ hand after it seemed that they were insistent on not signing any new defenders for most of the winter window. Turkish defender Kabak received a glowing recommendation from former S04 boss David Wagner, who is also a good friend of Reds gaffer Jurgen Klopp.
In another Liverpool transfer news on deadline day, the Reds also allowed promising Japanese attacker Takumi Minamino to go to Southampton on loan till the end of the current season.
