Roberto Carlos to Notts County as United bid for Akinfeev

Roberto Carlos is considering a move to Notthingam County according to his agent. The former ‘Galactico’,now 36,would be available for free from Turkish side Fenerbahce where he has spent the last two seasons. Notts county, bankrolled by millions from Middle Eastern investors, can meet the Brazilian’s wage demands and their influential Director hopes to bring more big names to Meadow Lane.

A Meadow Lane source said: “Sol Campbell was the first big-name signing – but he won’t be the last.”In the next couple of weeks the club hopes to bring in four or five other top names, either on free transfers or on loan.”Roberto Carlos is top of the list. There have already been talks and he wants big, big wages but that’s OK – money is not an issue here.”

23-year old CSKA Moscow goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev is the prime transfer target for Sir Alex Ferguson. With injury problems preventing him to play this season,Edwin Van Der Sar,38,is to make a decision about retiring. Ben Foster will probably succeed Van Der Sar as United’s no.1. But with Thomas Kuzack likely to depart,United will have concerns in their goalkeeping department. Akinfeev is a likely replacement after impressing at club and country level since his international debut in 2004 at 18.The UEFA cup winner has made 156 appearances for CSKA Moscow starting in 2003 and has 33 international caps.
