Robins sign Wolves striker

Bristol City have signed Wolves giant striker Stefan Maierhofer on a month’s loan. The 27 year-old Austrian international striker has been brought in to replace Wolves teammate Chris Iwelumo, who had had a successful spell at Ashton Gate. The Scottish striker was recalled by Wolves and the Premier League side allowed the Robins to sign Maierhofer.

He will go straight into the squad for Bristol City’s clash on Tuesday at Plymouth Argyle. Maierhofer has struggled to win a regular first team place at Molineux after making a summer move from Rapid Vienna. He has made just two starts and seven substitute appearances.

He made a big impression on his debut scoring against Blackburn after coming off the substitute bench. However he hasn’t made an appearance for Wolves since December and a run out at Manchester United’s Old Trafford.

He has been squeezed out the squad by the presence of Kevin Doyle, Sam Vokes, Sylvan Ebanks-Blake and Andy Keogh. Wolves boss Mick McCarthy is hoping the move will help Maierhofer get some regular first team football.

McCarthy revealed: “This is a good move for Stefan and offers him the chance to enjoy some regular football,”
