Rochdale have completed the signing of defender Pim Balkestein on loan from league rivals Brentford. The Dutchman, son of former footballer Luuk Balkestein, has joined Steve Eyre’s boys at the Spotland Stadium till the second week of January, with a view to completing a permanent move at the end of the loan period.
Balkestein joined Ipswich Town from SC Heerenveen for a six figure fee in 2008. He had two loan spells at Brentford and sealed a permanent move to the Bees in August 2010. However with the appointment of Uwe Rosler as manager at Griffin Park, he found himself of the first squad, and was an unused substitute for Brentford’s first two games of the season.
Balkestein could make his debut for Rochdale this weekend when they take on local rivals Oldham.
