Reading have officially announced the signing of Andy Carroll on a short-term deal. The former Liverpool, Newcastle and West Ham forward has put pen to paper on a 2-month contract that will keep him at the Madjeski till the middle of January. Carroll was without a club after being released by the Magpies earlier this summer.
The Royals currently play in the Championship and are 16th in the table at the time of writing. They will face Nottingham Forest this weekend- a fixture that could also serve as Carroll’s debut.
Carroll will have the likes of former Barca and Milan medio Alen Halilovic and Chelsea star Danny Drinkwater for company at the Madjeski. The former joined on a one-year deal earlier this summer while the latter is on loan from the reigning European champions.
The veteran striker’s signing will also help the Royals cope with the injury enforced absence of striker Lucas Joao, who is expected to make his return around the time Carroll’s deal ends.
Carroll has been capped nine times by England, the last of which came back in 2012, and also had a loan stint at Preston North End in the Championship as a teenager.
