Crystal Palace have signed midfielder Ryan Smith on a short term contract. Smith was a free agent after having been released by Southampton in May, and impressed in a trial at Selhurst Park.
Smith, 22, started his career at Arsenal, and was loaned out to Leicester City in 2005 before completing a permanent switch to Derby County next year. At Pride Park, he struggled to break into the first team, and was farmed out to Millwall on loan, where he impressed Willie Donachie so much that the Lions bought his services on a permanent basis in July 2007.
He went on loan to Southampton in October 2008, a move that became permanent in the 2009 January transfer window.
