Struggling Premier League outfit Southampton are looking to sign Tottenham centre-back Michael Dawson in the January transfer window. Dawson has fallen out of favour at White Hart Lane. The centre-back has fallen behind Steven Caulker, Jan Vertonghen, Younes Kaboul and William Gallas in the Spurs defensive pecking order.
The England international came close to joining Premier League rivals QPR in the summer for a fee of £9million. However, the deal never materialised and Dawson is now in limbo at Spurs.
Although Dawson has been rather injury-prone in the last few seasons he has been one of the most consistent centre-backs in the top flight.
Southampton have struggled at the back this season in the Premier League. The Saints have conceded 26 goals this season, the worse in the top flight. The leaky defence has put boss Nigel Adkins under pressure and the former-Scunthorpe boss seems to see Dawson as the solution to his defensive problems.
