Southampton have officially announced the signing of promising youngster Ronnie Edwards from Peterborough. The 21-year-old defender, who had a year left on his existing Posh contract, has moved for a reported £3m fee, with further add-ons and a sell-on clause also built into the deal.
Despite only being 21, Edwards has a fair bit of first team experience under his belt- he has made over 140 appearances for Posh, including 55 across all competitions in League One last season. Many Peterborough fans have tipped him as a potential England international and reckon he will enjoy the same level of success as Ivan Toney, who moved from Posh to Brentford four years ago.
Edwards is a product of the Barnet youth system and joined Peterborough in 2020. He has been capped by England at U19 and U20 levels and was part of the Three Lions side that won the U19 European Championships in 2022 by beating Israel 3-1 in the final.
Edwards also started all four games for England at the U20 World Cup last year- they lost to eventual runners up Italy in the Round of 16.
