Former Real Madrid full-back Michel Salgado has signed for Premier League Blackburn. The 35 year-old has signed a two-year contract at Ewood Park after he was released by the Spanish giants. During his ten years at Real Madrid he won four league titles, two Champions League titles, a Uefa Cup and an Intercontinental Cup.
He has also won 53 caps for his country with included appearing at Euro 2000 and World Cup 06. Rovers are still waiting for international clearance to come through in order for the former Real star to make his debut at Sunderland on Saturday.
The former Spanish international told Onda Cero radio Station “I achieved everything that I wanted to there,”
“I had no desire to play against Real Madrid and I hope that I do not have to throughout the rest of my career.
“If I have to, then it will be in Europe and it would be very difficult for me.
“Should Blackburn qualify for the Champions League then I hope that we do not play against Real Madrid.”
He also revealed that he would like to finish his playing career at Ewood Park saying: “I have joined an historic club that was one of the founders of the league. They ticked many of the boxes I wanted,”
“I did not want to stay in the Spanish league. I spent ten years with Real Madrid and I did not want to play against them.
“But also I am going to play in one of the best leagues in the world. This is football in it’s purest state and is different to Spain. Above all the atmosphere in the stadia can be spectacular.
“It is a league that I am going to enjoy playing in to finish my career.”
