Celtic have officially announced the signing of South Korean duo Yang Hyun-Jun and Kwon Hyeok-Kyu from Gangwon FC and Busan IPark respectively. The fee paid was not announced, although rumours have it be around the £2m mark for the former and around £850k for the latter. Both have put pen to paper five-year deals at Celtic Park that will keep them in Glasgow till the summer of 2028.
The duo become Brendan Rodgers’ newest acquisitions of the summer transfer window after Mario Tilio from Melbourne City and Odin Thiago Holm from Norwegian side Valerenga, and join fellow South Korean Oh Hyeon-Gu at Parkhead. Both players already have made more than 20 league appearances for their respective clubs this season.
Yang turned 21 in May earlier this year and was K-League Young Player of the Year last season while Kwon is 22. Both have been capped by South Korea at U23 level but are yet to represent the senior team.
Celtic started their pre-season with a trip to Japan, where they lost 4-2 to Yokohama F-Marinos but beat Gamba Osaka 1-0. They will also be seen in action against Wolves in Dublin and Athletic Bilbao in Glasgow before kicking off the new league season against Ross County.
